ABOUT:
The group:
Our members employ their craftsmanship to replicate the character and grace of boats and ships, an age-old art. Ship modeling is an amalgam of woodworking, engineering, design, painting, electric work, metal work and problem solving, all of which our members enjoy. If you like these crafts and enjoy sharing your experience with others, teaching and learning, please join us. You don’t have to be a member to “attend” our zoom meetings, so come aboard.
The Shipwrights of Ohio was founded in 2004 to share ship modeling experiences and information. The club provides information about its ship building research, history, methods, tools, information sources, technology and links to a web of similar clubs.
We are composed of active ship model enthusiasts from Ohio and associate members from other states. We want to provide a socially enjoyable means for serious and not so serious ship modelers to meet, share, and expand their common avocation through the exchange of ideas and skill knowledge. Our skills range from beginners to those who build museum quality models.
We meet via Zoom or in-person @ Westerville Public Library, Westerville, Ohio on 3rd Saturday of each month from 930A-12P
To watch a meeting click the Zoom Meeting button on the Home Page.

The hobby:
Building ship models is a noble endeavor with a rich and long history. Ship models have been built for thousands of years and they are viewed as works of art. With modern technology, it is easier than ever for novices to make a quality wooden ship model that can be passed down from generation to generation.
As a hobby, as a process, as a past time, it can be rewarding. Plus technology advances improve the veracity and quality of the models. The internet has opened up many new horizons. Research is much easier. Resourcing kits, tools and materials is on-line. Thousands of ship modelers around the world keep in touch share information and help each other. Local ship modeling clubs, easily accessible on-line, are also a source of help, ideas, encouragement, and a place to learn techniques.

The mission:
Our mission is to delve into and share the mysteries of boats and ships through the ages. As depicted in the quadrants of our Coat of Arms, our interests range across history (upper left), design & engineering (upper right), construction (lower left) and technology (lower right) that are inherent in this ancient mode of transport.
………and enjoy it.
